- Ray Dutton of Arcata died Monday morning in a truck accident near Big Lagoon. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Arcata and Local No. 3006, Lumber and Sawmill Workers' Union. He was born on November 8, 1900, in Cherry Box, Mo., and had lived in Humboldt County for the past 20 years. He was employed by the Georgia-Pacific Corporation as a chopper for most of that time.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Dutton of Arcata; childred, Charles Dutton, Donald Dutton, Ida June Dutton and Robert Dutton, all of Arcata; brothers and sisters, Grant Dutton of Makin, Mo., Everett Dutton of Jacksonville, Mo., Mrs. Beulah Smoot of Moberly, Mo., Mrs. Fleta Kabana of Chicago, Ill., Theodore Dutton and Floyd Dutton, Mrs. Gladys Baretto of Stockton.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from Paul's Funeral Chapel in Arcata, with the Rev. Fred Hanes officiating. Interment will follow in Ocean View Cemetery.

Ray was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He enlisted on April 15, 1918 and served with the 5th Company, Coast Defenses of Manila Bay, until his honorable discharge on December 20, 1918. He re-enlisted on January 28, 1920, and was honorably discharged a second time on December 30, 1922.
