  • Notes
    • John Stone was 10 years of age when his father died in 1790. He lived from the time he was a very small boy with his grandfather (Thomas) Stone, inherited the farm, and carried it on after his grandfather's death. His unmarried Aunt Hannah lived with him until he made the move to Warrensburg, NY.

John Stone and his growing family moved to Warrensburg, Washington (later Warren Co.), NY in 1811. He enlisted as a soldier in the War of 1812 from Warrensburg, NY. He was in Capt. R. Tilden's Co., New York Militia. In his later years he received a pension for his military services.

John Stone worked as a farmer and cooper in this rocky, hilly, but beautiful area of New York, very reminiscent of, but more rugged than, the terrain of New Hampshire from where they had moved.

By 1855 they were living in and owned a frame house, valued at $300.00. This farm home was situated high above the town of Warrensburg, which was several miles away, above the site of the Harrington Hill cemetery.
