1 | Edith H Conrad 1924-1980 The daughter of Walter Conrad and Sally Dutton, Edith married Thomas T. "Tom" Nichols on 07 Oct 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. They were the parents of 6 children--all girls. During the early years of their marriage, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during World War II. Edith was a homemaker, and Tom was an assistant chief engineer at Wood River Township Hospital. He worked there for 15 years and retired in 1986. Edith died at Lutheran Hospital following an extended illness. At the time of her death, she was 56 years, 4 months and 18 days old. She was survived by her husband, Tom; 6 daughters; 9 grandchildren; and 1 brother, Walter Conrad (Jr.) of Wood River, Illinois. Visitation was held at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois on 23 Jul 1980. Funeral services were conducted at the New Testament Fellowship Church at 9:30 a.m. the following morning. Tom later remarried in 1988. He died in 1996 and was buried next to Edith. | |
2 | Tom T Nichols The son of Clifford C. Nichols and Delora I. Taylor, "Tom" married Edith H. Conrad on 07 Oct 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. They were the parents of 6 children--all girls. He worked there for 15 years and retired in 1986. Tom's wife, Edith, passed away in 1980 at the age of 56. Children from first marriage: 6 daughters. Tom married Mrs. Beulah Tripp on 02 Jan 1988 in South Roxana, Madison County, Illinois. He was a member of Troy Assembly of God Church. Children from second marriage: 1 step-son. At the time of his death at Belleville Memorial Hospital, Tom was 72 years, 10 months and 26 days old. He was survived by his second wife, Beulah; 6 daughters; 1 step-son; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Norvilee Pickering of Hartford, Illinois; and 1 brother, John Nichols of Alton, Illinois. In addition to his first wife, Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 sister, Ruth McGary. Visitation was held at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois on 05 May 1996. Funeral services were conducted there at 2 p.m. the following afternoon. The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the church. |
