It is not clear who John Dutton's parents were. John was born near Bern (now Berne) Albany Co., NY, on Mar. 26, 1791. John Dutton was a farmer throughout his life. The Dutton family appears to have emigrated to Cato Township, Cayuga Co., NY prior to 1814. John married Sarah Abbott in Cato Township on Feb. 13, 1814. Sometime around 1825-27, John and Sarah emigrated to Hannibal Township, Oswego Co., NY. Prior to emigrating to Will Co., Illinois, around 1835-38, Sarah gave birth to 9 children, 4 sons and 5 daughters. John and Sarah began farming in the area around Beebe's Grove and Thorn Creek, settlements that later became the Town of Crete. John and Sarah farmed in the area around Crete and Monee in Will Co., Illinois, until their deaths. Sarah died on Aug. 7, 1861 at the age of 63 years, and John died on Feb. 26, 1863 at the age of 71.
