Capt John B Dutton
John was the son of Rufus and Mary(nee Ball) Dutton. He was one of five children. He enlisted for Civil War army service in Company E(Cleveland Grays), 1st Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, April 1, 1861, as a private for a term of 3 months. He was mustered out with Comany E, August 1 1861. John enlisted for a second time as a private in Company I, 2nd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, at Cleveland, Ohio, August 18, 1861. He was promoted to sergeant(no date); promoted to 2nd lieutenant, Feb. 23, 1863; to 1st lieutenant, April 11 1863 and transferred to Company D, and then to Company C, April 10, 1864; promoted to Captain, to date from Nov. 26, 1864, but not mustered as such. He was mustered out Oct. 26, 1864. His wife's name was Emily A. Dutton(born 1840, Ohio). John and Emily were shown living in Wyandotte, KS, employed as a machinist in 1870 but return to Cuyahoga County, Ohio(Cleveland) by 1880, where John worked as a fire insurance agent. They raised two daughters(Mabel and Elsie) and two sons(Russell and Rufus). There are 13 Dutton family members buried in Dection 17, Lot 14 at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland. It is uncertain when Emily died or where she is buried. John's name is on Panel #1 in the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Public Square, Cleveland, OH. Charles served as Assistant Surgeon on the Staff of the 150th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, for a term of 3 months from May 5-August 23, 1864. He was a surgeon in civilian life. At the time of his death he resided at 4816 Franklin Ave., Cleveland, Ohio. His name is on Panel #19 in the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument, Public Sq., Cleveland, OH.
