  Paul Benjamin Ruby (1906 - 2001) spent his early years on the homestead that his birth Father Carl Benjamin "Ben" Ruby (1877-1910) and his Uncle Richard Frederick "Fred" Ruby (1884-1955) claimed; Upon that claim the 2 brothers built a one-room sod house for Ben and his Wife Adele (born Schmale) Ruby (1878-1954) and their six children--Fred, Anna, Carl, Paul, Frank, and Bill. Paul's birth Father Ben was killed in a coal mine near the homestead, and a couple of years later his birth Mother Adele married Ben's brother Fred, who raised Paul and his brothers and sister as his own. Paul's Uncle Fred and his birth Mother Adele gave birth to six more children--Chris, Richard, Rose, Ruth, Emma, and May, all born in that sod house, except May. Another baby, Adele, was stillborn and is laid to rest in the Ruby Family Cemetery next to Ben's grave.
