  Portsmouth Herald, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Thursday, March 21, 1901, page 1. DROWNED HER CHILD Milford, N.H., March 20. - While mentally dranged, Mrs. William H. Wilkins of Clinton street this afternoon drowned her eleven-year-old daughter Maud in the Souhegan river. Mrs. Wilkins, after committing the deed, crossed the river on the railroad bridge and went to the home of Edward Nichols, whom she told of the drowning and the girl asked him to notify the Milford authorities. This he did and the child's body was soon afterward recovered. Mrs. Wilkins was removed to her home in a state of almost total collapse. She is the wife of a well known resident of Milford. The victim was a pretty, black-eyed girl to whom both parents were devotedly attached, and the father's grief over her fate is pitiful. Mrs. Wilkin's mind has been affected for some time, but, although she has acted queerly, her condition has not been thought serious enough to cause alarm. [From Alice] [1]
