  	St. Albans Messenger - (Dec/5/2003) JEFFERSONVILLE -- Earl Morton Playful, age 86, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 4, 2002, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville with his loving family by his side. He was born in Cambridge, Aug. 12, 1915, son of the late Phil and Vesta (Gallup) Playful. He was a graduate of Cambridge High School Class of 1934, and married the former Elsie Chamberlin in Cambridge on May 25, 1940. He was an employee with Windridge Farms for a number of years and was later employed with I.B.M. of Essex Junction, retiring in 1977. He unconditionally volunteered to assist his community as a Boy Scout leader for several years and as a masonic member of the former Warner Lodge #50, F&AM. Earl was an avid outdoorsman and as a longtime member of the Vermont Trappers Association, he always looked forward to his trapping and fishing along Vermont's crystal clear streams. He fancied his guns and most deer seasons Earl could be found hunting his way through the prime hardwoods and rugged ridges of Sterling Mountain, a special place that offered him peace and comfort. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and true friend. His passing will be a tremendous loss to all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife and loving caregiver throughout the years, Elsie (Chamberlin) Playful of Jeffersonville; a son, Philip Playful and his wife Cindy of Fairfield; a daughter, Mitchi King and her husband John of Colchester; a sister, Phyllis Kennedy of Chelsea; seven grandchildren, Wanda, Greta, Dennis, Gregory, Matthew, Stacy and Angie; two great-grandchildren, Kiley and Jordan; his very special friends, Greg, Phyllis, Doug, Ash and Evelyn; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Vern, Clyde and Buel Playful; and two sisters, Vera Rogers and Mary Booth. Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. A memorial service was to be held at the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville today, Monday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Earl's memory to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr. Ave., Morrisville, Vt. 05661, or Cambridge Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 431, Jeffersonville, Vt. 05464.
