Alexander Junior was born November 1850 (according to census records) and died 4 Jan 1929 in Blount Co., AL. He and his wife, Isabel Powell Stephenson, are buried at Marvins Chapel Cemetery. (When we visited that cemetery years ago, it was called Pinson United Methodist Church Cemetery; it is located in Pinson, Jefferson County, Alabama.) Alexander Jr. and Isabel have tombstones there, but no dates on them. We discovered Alex’s death date from his obituary published in the Southern Democrat Newspaper Jan. 10, 1929. As to wife Isabel’s death date, we believe she died between the 1920 Census and the death of Alexander in 1929 because she is not mentioned in his obituary although all their children are listed in it.
A puzzling aside—In the 1900 Census, Isabel said she had 12 children and 10 were still living. A daughter, Sarah, died in 1899. Sarah is buried right next to the person with the 1876-1894 tombstone. This would lead one to think this was the other child that died prior to 1900. The problem with that theory is that we have accounted for all the children who show up in the 1880 Census. Bottom line, we don’t know who is buried with the birth date of 4/30/1876—8/15/1894.
