  	After graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy, Lyman taught school in Concord and Waterford Vermont, and in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. Lyman served as selectman, lister, and town auditor for Waterford. He was an active member of the church, and sang in the choir for 60 years. On January 9, 1868, Lyman married Leandia Davison in Waterford. The couple lived with Leandia's parents. They had one daughter. [5]
