- Mr. Gordon Maynard Johnston, age 81, of Florence, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005.Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 29, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Spry Serenity Chapel, Florence. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Jeff Davis officiating. Interment will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Florence Lions Club.Mr. Johnston was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the European and Pacific theatre. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Florence, was a retired engineer with TVA, a member of the Florence Lions Club and was also a director of the Help Center in Florence.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Johnston, of Florence, Ala.; sons, Gordon Maynard Johnston, of Birmingham, Ala., Steven Jeffrey Johnston, of Memphis, Tenn., James Matthew Johnston and wife, Nicole, of Antioch, Tenn.; daughter, Wanda Lynne Johnston, of Richardson, Texas; brother, Dale Johnston, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister, Iris Leigh, of Tuscumbia, Ala.; grandchildren, Tracy Spruell, Michelle Dawson, Magnolia Johnston; great-grandchildren, Austin and Bryan Spruell.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.Spry Serenity Chapel, Florence, is directing.
