Mrs. Fannie Alden, relict of the late William Alden, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Philo Talcott, Monday morning about half past ten o'clock alter a week's illness of pneumonia, following an attack of the grippe.

Mrs. Alden's maiden name was Fannie Dutton and she was born at Vergennes, VT, 82 years ago the 16th of March next. When she was eleven years old her father came to Massena and settled on the farm two miles north of this village, now owned by F. J. Hyde.

Fifty-four years ago last May she married William Alden of this town and they lived happily together until nearly three years ago, when her husband died, since which time she has lived with her son and daughter.

Eight children were born to them, six of whom are now living, George B., of Louisville, Edwin, of Massena, Burton, of Madrid, Sheridan E. of Massena, Mrs. Charles A. Newell, of Troy, and Mrs. Philo Talcott, of Louisville. All were present at the funeral excepting Mrs. Newell, who was prevented from coming by illness.
Interment in Pine Grove cemetery.

In The Days That Used To Be
April 2, 1903

William Alden, an old and highly respected citizen of Massena, died in the Royal Victoria hospital at Montreal last week Wednesday. He was born at Crown Point, N.Y., October 9, 1828, and was one of a family of 11 children. His father, William S. Alden, was a native of Vergennes, Vt., and came to Massena when the younger William was about six years old, settling at Racket River.
